Vegan Poutine, eh?
We can’t believe Sig just made that joke, who are we? For those who are unaware, Poutine is a Quebec original, and is essentially fries with gravy and cheese curds. Put it on a plate and voila! You have Poutine.
This tasty snack (or meal if you really want) is great on a cold winter day, to bring to a potluck, or late at night after you’ve had a few to many drinks (yes, we’ve been there a few times). If you’re a fellow Canadian, then you’re probably familiar with this Apres-Ski delicacy!
Lets run through why this Canadian delicacy is so delicious:
- Fries – GOOD
- Shredded Mozzarella cheeze – GOOD
- Gravy – uh, SO GOOD
And there friends, we make our point! Vegan Poutine is DELICIOUS!
Whether you’ve had gravy and cheeze covered fries before or not, we really recommend giving this recipe a go. We find it hard to believe that you wouldn’t enjoy it, see the points above.
- 1 bag Frozen French Fries
- 1 tbsp Vegan Butter
- 1/4 cup All-Purpose Flour
- 2 1/2 cup Vegetable Broth
- 2 tbsp Miso Paste
- 2 tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1/2 tsp Onion Powder
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp Yellow Mustard
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Pepper
- 1 cup Daiya Shredded Mozzarella Cheeze
Empty bag of fries onto a lined baking sheet and cooked as directed in the baking instructions.
In a medium sized saucepan, add butter and allow to melt. Once melted, slowly add in flour, whisking until thick and smooth.
Whisk in the vegetable broth, miso paste, soy sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, mustard, salt and pepper.
Bring the gravy to a boil and reduce heat to a simmer. Simmer until gravy starts to thicken, about 5-10 minutes.
If the gravy doesn’t thicken create a slurry by adding 1 tablespoon of cornstarch to 1 tablespoon of water in a small bowl. Whisk together until corn starch is completely dissolved. Pour slurry into gravy and whisk continually until the gravy thickens up.
Once the fries are done remove them from oven and place on a serving tray.
Top the fries with the mozzarella shreds and then pour the gravy on top. The hot gravy will cause the cheeze to melt slightly. Add additional cheeze if desired.
Serve and enjoy!
