Who doesn’t love Tofu Fingers? The crunchy outside from the breading and the soft and chewy inside, tossed in sauce! Our mouths are drooling just thinking about it! The best thing about Tofu Fingers is there are so many sauce options out there. You can really satisfy any craving just by changing the sauce.
For those of you missing the days when you could chow down on some good ol’ chicken fingers, these will definitely satisfy that craving! Serve our with some chopped celery, carrots and our Ranch dressing and it’ll be like you’re out with friends at a pub.
If you prefer your fingers without breading, just skip the breadcrumb step. We’ve made them both ways and the fingers are equally delicious. The only difference is the breading adds a little bit of extra crunch.
When it comes to the sauce, choose your favourite finger sauce. You can go with classic Franks Red Hot Sauce, BBQ sauce, a maple garlic sauce or plain garlic sauce like we did for the photo. Whatever you’re craving give it a go! Just finger it! Ha, did you see what we did there!
- 1 block Extra-Firm Tofu
- 1 tbsp Ground Flaxseed
- 2 tbsp Water
- 1/4 cup All-Purpose Flour
- 1/4 cup Almond Milk
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1/2 tsp Onion Powder
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Ground Black Pepper
- 1/2 cup Vegetable Oil
- 1 cup Breadcrumbs
- Your favourite finger sauce
Cut the block of tofu into 18 equal size, rectangular pieces
In a small bowl combine the ground flaxseed with 2 tablespoons of water, whisking until fully combined to create a flax egg. Place in fridge for 5 minutes.
In a medium size bowl combine the flour, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper and flax egg. Mix until fully combined. Mixture sure be thin enough to dip the fingers in, but thick enough that the batter stays on the finger. If too thin add more flour 1 tablespoon at a time. If too thick add more almond milk 1 tablespoon at a time.
Place bread crumbs in a shallow flat bowl, good for dipping.
In a large skillet over medium heat add the vegetable oil and allow time to heat up. Vegetable oil is hot enough when a toothpick placed in the vegetable oil produces tiny bubbles.
Place tofu into the flour and milk mixture, coating fully. Then place into the breadcrumbs to coat fully. Repeat with all the fingers and place onto the frying pan. Pan fry the fingers for 3-5 minutes per side, until golden brown. Depending on the size of the pan this may take 2 rounds as you don’t want to overcrowd the pan.
Once the fingers are done immediately place them in a bowl with a healthy serving of your favourite finger sauce and toss to coat.
Serve and enjoy!
