If you’re just starting to explore plant-based cooking, or you’re looking for a dinner that’s quick to eat and make, then this Sweet & Spicy Stir-Fry is for you. You can buy a store-bought sauce, or you can follow our Thai Chili sauce recipe to make your own.
We think stir-fry is a great way to learn how to make tofu. A lot of people can’t wrap their head around why anyone would like tofu. They tend to say it’s flavourless and chewy. We used to think so too! This usually happens for two reasons: it isn’t drained properly, or it’s not marinated well enough.
But if you press the tofu long enough and have a killer sauce, there’s no denying how delicious tofu can be. It’s definitely become one of our favourites. This Sweet & Spicy Stir-Fry is a great way to convert people to becoming tofu lovers. Even if we’re not in the mood for stir-fry, we’ll whip together this tofu and sauce. If you fry the tofu long enough it gets nice and crispy and goes great with a bunch of vegetables. Plus, it makes great leftovers for lunch!

Remove tofu from packaging and wrap in an absorbent towel. Place under a large mixing bowl or something heavy and let sit for 15 minutes.
Remove tofu from towel and dice into 1 inch cubes.
Add 1 tablespoon of oil to a large skillet over medium heat.
To the hot skillet add the tofu and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce. Cook mixing occasionally until the tofu becomes a light golden brown (approximately 10 minutes). Remove from heat and set aside.
In the same pan over medium heat, add remaining 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, 1 tablespoon soy sauce and remaining vegetables. Cook stirring constantly until the carrots and peppers start to wilt slightly (approximately 5 minutes).
Add tofu back to the skillet along with the Sweet & Spicy Thai Chili sauce mixing constantly for 5 minutes making sure to coat the tofu and vegetables in the sauce.
Remove from heat.
Serve over rice and top with chopped green onions, chopped peanuts and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
*If you're sensitive to spice use the Thai chili sauce sparingly as it adds heat!
