The SeaChange Agency (Kurmalliance) is a not-for-profit that is working to improve marine ecosystems for sea turtles and their cohabitants. They support endangered turtle populations and other preservation projects across the globe. They also focus on the Pluckfastic movement, which looks to collect plastic from local waters and fight the production of single-use plastic products.
How Kurmalliance began
In 2010 a huge oil disaster plagued the Gulf of Mexico resulting in significant negative impacts on animals and ecosystems. Kurmalliance started as a response to this disaster after it was discovered that sea turtles were being caught in oil collection booms and burning alive.
What Kurmalliance is working on
Kurmalliance (The SeaChange Agency) works on many projects, including:
- Shark Kashatriyas. This initiative is working to save the sharks, primarily from the global trade of shark fins. They are huge activists against Canadian shark fin imports and support the WWF Rob Stewart fund.
- Pluk the beach. This is a program of regularly scheduled beach cleanups. Members of Kurmalliance provide education about plastics and their effect on the marine ecosystems.
- Fishin’ for consciousness. This is a mission to end unsustainable modern fishing practices. Factory fishing fleets devour entire species, and pirate fisheries illegally capture endangered species of the ocean. This movement is looking to put an end to it.
These are just some of the many initiatives that Kurmalliance is currently apart of. Visit their facebook to learn more about their projects, events and how you can support. This a great organization doing amazing things, read their story to see if you would like to get involved.
