Who are Kurmalliance
The SeaChange Agency (aka Kurmalliance) is a not-for-profit working to improve marine ecosystems for sea turtles and their cohabitants. They support endangered turtle populations and other preservation projects across the globe. They also focus on promoting the Pluckfastic movement. It is looking to collect plastic from local waters and is fighting the production of single-use plastic products.
How Kurmalliance began
In 2010, a huge oil disaster happened in the Gulf of Mexico. This had a huge negative impacts on the animals life living there. As a result, Kurmalliance was born to respond to this disaster after it was discovered that sea turtles were being caught in oil booms and were burning alive.
What Kurmalliance is working on now
Currently, they work on many projects. Though the list is long, it includes:
- Shark Kashatriyas. Here they’re goal is to save the sharks, primarily from the global trade of shark fins. They are huge activists against Canadian shark fin imports and support the WWF Rob Stewart fund.
- Pluk the beach. This is a program of regularly scheduled beach cleanups. Members of Kurmalliance provide education about plastics and their effect on the marine ecosystems.
- Fishin’ for consciousness. This is a mission to end unsustainable fishing practices. Factory fishing fleets devour entire species, and pirate fisheries illegally capture endangered species of the ocean. This movement is looking to put an end to it.
These are just some of the many things Kurmalliance is currently apart of. Learn more about their projects by visiting their facebook, they also post about how you can support their efforts. We highly recommend reading their story if you want to get involved.
The ocean may seem like a vast space where little changes may not make a big difference, but a little change can make all the difference. It’s up to us to make changes in our personal lives to reduce our waste and raise awareness, and it’s also up to us to help support organizations like Kurmalliance.
