Cayenne pepper is a moderately hot chili pepper that has been ground up. It is often used to flavour dishes.*
We had to go to Wikipedia for this definition, but what we did know was that cayenne pepper is key to have on hand! It’s used in so many recipes. Although it is also made of ground chilis, just like Paprika, we find it has a hotter flavour.
We throw cayenne pepper in with other spice blends in our recipes, like in our Tofu Tostadas and Tempeh Wings. Although it does bring a heat with it, it’s still subtle enough that in moderation it helps to balance a dish.
