There’s no better way (in our opinion) to spend a lazy Sunday than sampling a local brew. Offset from the main road by only a few minutes, Left Field Brewery is quickly becoming a local hot-spot for good beer and good food. The best part? They’re dog friendly! It’s a home-run! Get it?
In a city passionate about having the only MLB team in Canada, it’s fitting for this baseball staple beverage to be themed after the sport. They have three standout core beers – Eephus happens to be my favourite. But they also have seasonal, rotating, and one-off choices. There’s a little something for everyone.
As we said, they have three staple beers. Greenwood IPA, Laser Show Vermont Style IIPA, and Eephus Oatmeal Brown. But with so many fun flavours coming on and off tap, you never know what you’ll get. Left Field has done a great job working with the community, so it isn’t unlikely to find a beer that’s inspired by or teamed up with another local company. As this is being written, they have a marshmallow stout in partnership with Sweet Jesus. Is it vegan? Probably not. But most of them are!
How to know if a beer is vegan?
For many beers, it’s fairly simple. 98% of the time things like IPAs, brown ales, lagers, pale ales, they’re usually vegan. Porters and stouts get a little bit trickier, but it isn’t uncommon to find vegan ones. For obvious reasons, avoid things like Milkshake IPAs, Milk Stouts, etc. The higher the ABV (Alcohol by Volume) in a beer, the more likelihood they’ve used lactose to help keep flavour. So the easiest way to find out is to ask!
Thankfully, the core three are vegan-friendly!
Beyond the beer and dog-friendly environment (and really, do you need more persuading?), Left Field Brewery does something else super fun. They do various pop-up food stalls and workshops! Everything from “How to Make Kombucha”, to books, to Samosas. More often than not, you’ll find the food pop-ups include vegan options – even at the sausage party!
On our latest trip, we were delighted to attend donut day, put on with Glory Hole Doughnuts! Mouths, start watering! With two vegan options, it was the perfect Sunday morning! But, be sure to be there early because these babies go fast!
We’re just going to leave that picture there for you… because what else can we say to convince you to check out Left Field Brewery?
- Good beer
- Cute dogs
- Yummy food
That’s all there is to it!
