Welcome to Plant-Based City Living!

We are so excited you’ve stopped by!

We are two vegans with a huge love for food, animals, and healthy lifestyles. Having become friends a number of years ago, we quickly bonded over a couple glasses of wine (and we still do!). We also realized how much we both love food and animals. Then one day, Sigourney had a great idea to start a blog! She asked Brigette if she’d be interested, and it took off from there. Now, there is nothing they love more than cooking, eating, drinking wine, and exploring all things vegan to share with their followers. Plant-Based City Living is more than just they’re lifestyle, it’s their passion.

Who is Sigourney?

Sigourney lives with her loving husband Tom, their dogs – two toy Poodles, Max and Lexi, a Chihuahua, Lilo, (who’s back half is paralyzed) and their crazy cat Candy.

Check out our rapid-fire Q&A!

Q. Why did you choose to adopt a plant based lifestyle?
S. Animal welfare, and animals in general, has been a huge passion of mine for as long as I can remember. Eating meat has always felt unnatural to me, but I used to think I could push the negative thoughts to the back of my mind. Once I started looking into and learning about the life of factory farmed animals I knew that animal byproducts could no longer be a part of my life.

B. I decided to adopt a vegan lifestyle, because I was looking for a way to eat healthier, and I found the more animal by-products I ate, the worse I felt, and the easier it was to eat junk food. Since becoming vegan and focusing on a plant-based diet I have found I have more energy, and I eat far less processed foods – I’ve been forced to be less lazy, and I love it!

Q. What do you think is the biggest misconception about living a plant based lifestyle?
S. Vegans are pushy and so extreme with their opinions. Yes, I would love for everyone to live a plant-based lifestyle and end the use and consumption of animal by products, but I also realize that isn’t easy in today’s society. I want to promote and recognize all positive choices that people make every day and be a resource to those looking to understand more about living a plant based lifestyle.

B. I think the biggest misconception(s) are two things – one, that it’s expensive, and two, that it’s hard. I actually find it is very easy to make filling plant-based meals very easily, and there are many substitutes so you don’t have to stop eating some of the best meals (like pizza). I also find it far more affordable, if you choose to eat healthy and not lazy vegan food, because produce (especially when bought seasonally) is so much cheaper than frozen and boxed food!

Q. What is your favourite animal and why?
S. There isn’t a single animal I don’t love! All animals bring me so much joy and happiness. My dream is to one day own an animal sanctuary filled with all types of animals and spend every day learning from them!

B. My favourite animals are goats! They make me laugh so much, I think they’re just so adorable! One day I’d like to have a big enough property to have one.

Q. Favourite food?
S. This questions is so hard… my favourite food changes hourly. At this moment I would have to say vanilla cake or garlic bread!

B. My favourite food is hard to decide on… but I’d probably go with the classic (and basic) pizza. Who doesn’t love pizza?!

Q. In one word, how would you describe Brigette?
S. #ThoughtfulSelflessGenuineTheatrical (that’s one word, right?)

Q. In one word, how would you describe Sigourney?
B. If I had to pick one word to describe Sigourney, it would be determined. When she sets her mind to something, there’s no limit to what she can do.
